MANILA - (UPDATE) Top tourist spot El Nido Palawan is set to undergo rehabilitation Environment Secretary Roy Cimatu Said Wednesday.
Cimatu said 22 establishment in El Nido would be closed down by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources due to different violations.
Fifty other establishment meanwhile will be strictly monitored by the agency.
El Nido however will not be closed down from the public unlike Boracay Island which underwent a 6 month rehabilitation earlier this year.
"Hindi na po kailangan ipasara (ang El Nido), yung mga pasaway lang po ang ipapasara natin", DENR Undersecretary Benny Antiporda told radion DZMM Wednesday.
(There's no need to close down El Nido, We just have to close establishment with violations.)
Earlier, El Nido municipal administrator RJ Dela Calzada said authorities would soon limit the number of tourists visiting key island destinations in the top tourist spot to preserve the area.
"We do not want to follow the footsteps of Boracay," De Calzada said.

Anti porda added that the local government of palawan has already begun rehabilitation efforts which will be boosted by the national government in the coming days.
El Nido's rehabilitation comes after the half-year closure of Boracay to give way to a massive clean up.
